 Wakefield England's the Cribs are back with their 5th indie garage rock album In the Belly of the Brazen Bull, and it's their 2nd album to make Top 10 in the UK! The trio of brothers originally formed in 2002 and with sold out shows around the world since then, it's no shocker that Q Magazine had pegged them as the "biggest cult band in the UK." May brit-rock reign supreme again with the Cribs leading the way. The Cribs US tour starts June 5th in Philly (see all dates after the jump), and they've got giveaways galore going on via their Facebook page. And we've got a couple passes to give out to their June 7th DC show at the Black Cat! All you have to do is email us by 3 PM on June 6th, and tell us what your favorite Cribs song is and why.  Named "Ambassador of Bhangra" by the New York Times and "one of the most influential South Asians in the Unites States" by Newsweek, it's pretty evident that DJ Rekha has fully elevated the blend of bollywood beats with electronic bliss to create dance nights that draw in crowds from all over the country to hear the sounds of Basement Banghra. Now add Halloween to that and you get the extravaganza known as Bhangraween, coming to DC for the 3rd time this year, at the 9:30 Club on Oct. 29. Joining her is the dhol drum prodigy Rani Taj making her US debut, as well as Brazilian baile funk princess Zuzuka Poderosa. Sounds like an international blood feast, so don't forget to don your fav saree or freakiest costume because DJ Rekha will be judging the best dressed and cash prizes are involved!!! Hollerrrr.  In a world, where the music industry is struggling to survive, there is a beacon of light still shining, that has been for over 30 years, beaming down on the fortunate leaders of pop who are lucky enough to be parodied by the King of Parodies himself...Mr. Weird Al Yankovic. Lady Gaga has stated it's a rite of passage to be polka-faced... Dave Grohl knew he made it with "Smells Like Nirvana"... Chamillionaire claims his Grammy wouldn't exist without Weird Al bringing him into the accordion lair... And Michael Jackson wouldn't have been the world-wide icon that he is/was without a little help from his Grammy award winning "Fat" friend. Now, the architect turned accordion touting lyrical genius is touring the world in support of his latest (13th studio) album Alpocalypse! Tonight he'll be swinging by the nation's capitol (that'd be DC, kids) to perform at the Warner Theatre, and there are only a handful of tickets left, so be there! For more tour dates, click here. And if it's a classic B-side, to be able to hear it live by some of the original performers... ayyy, consider that starship boarded, as tomorrow night Peter Hook and the Light are hitting the stage at the 9:30 Club in DC, and I am so there! Hook, one of the founding members of the late 70's post-punk Manchester band Joy Division, has been touring the world to present a live performance of their second/final album Closer (released 1980) along with some other surprise tracks that may or may not have been on some remasters...!!! The resurgence started last May when his band played Joy Division's first album Unknown Pleasures at the Factory Club in Manchester, and then took the show throughout Europe, Australia, and the US.
