What's New in 2015 for Scene Trek

1/8/2015

Scene Trek began in 2011 as a music blog exploring and uncovering music scenes from around the world and "someday beyond." We, a small crew of music bloggers, showcased black metal from the Middle East, shoegaze from South Korea, hip-hop from Native Americans, and more.  We sought out music videos that were worthy of toting the label "Video of the Week."  We interviewed artists and pressed them for answers on time travel and distant galaxies.

Then we went dark, as a result of temporary unemployment, wasting hour-sucking time at temp jobs that demotivated creativity (because the bills still needed to be paid,) became uninspired by the onslaught of dubstep music filling our inbox, and forgetting what I, Dawn Reed, really-truly-actually wanted to do in life.

Write.

Growing up I would make mix tapes, and then write short stories inspired by them like it was the soundtrack. It led me to go to film school to get the skills needed to turn those words on paper into music videos. But my ideas were too grandeur and out of my budget to see through fruition.  So now, I'd like to share my stories with you and let your brain create the visuals that a video camera and graphics couldn't do as properly.

Scene Trek's Capt's bLog will now showcase these short stories of sci-fi and fiction, inspired by songs new and old that triggered me to pick up a pen. Old school.

Encounters is where we'll continue pressing bands for their ideas on inter-dimensions, black holes, and such.

Trekking will go in depth on the featured songs used in the Capt's bLog and continue to roll out the latest finds in scenes around the world. If you'd like to be a part of that journey and share your findings, please email me. The more the merrier.

Scene Trek is now an outlet for artists inspired by sci-fi and music of all genres. If you want to be a part of the crew, just email the Capt. -Dawn

Video of the Week: Maribou State "Olivia"

10/25/2013

(by Kaitlyn Ward) In honor of Maribou State releasing their ahhhmazing new Truths EP last week, I thought I'd rewind to 2012 with the awesome video for the title track on their breakout Olivia EP. Liam Ivory and Chris Davids, or the "boys from the shire" as they call themselves, put out the EP on Norman Cook's Southern Fried Records last February and have since garnered a following via UK blogs, late-night radio, and a series of great remixes. Their understated future garage sound makes me feel warm n' fuzzy, so I'd definitely recommend keeping an eye on these boys in the coming months. They're just now hopping over the pond, so if you live in DC, check them out at U St. Music Hall with Tensnake on 11/8 or keep up with their tour on Resident Advisor. Until then, watch some dudes "do Alphagetti" and stop-motion trip in the woods.

(by Dawn Reed) From Tel Aviv Israel comes the post punk trio Vaadat Charigim whose infectious blend of noise rock and underground 80's will be unleashed internationally to the world via their debut album The World is Well Lost (out Nov. 12.) Get into it now because they are due for some dates at SxSW in 2014!  Check out this track for "Lehitorer Velo Lada'at" from the album. The footage used is by Israeli artist Dudu Geva who created this piece titled "Little Star" and was featured on Israeli Channel One back in 1979.
