Holy vaseline & tangerines! Today, Flaming Lips announced to world they will be touring soon for their latest release The Terror. And moments ago, Merriweather Post Pavillion has announced that the Flaming Lips will be gracing the DMV area with their awesome presence on October 4th (joined by Tame Impala and The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger!) And if you haven't seen the Flaming Lips live, then you really haven't experienced what live performances should always be: fun, crowd involved, and fucking memorable.  Whether it's Wayne rolling on top of you in a bubble, indie celebs and randomly selected fans dancing on stage whilst hiding in giant bear suits, or you playing parachute (see video below,) in someway, if you are at a Flaming Lips show, you are a part of it!

Tickets do not go on sale until 6/28 for the MPP show, so you can wait til Friday and buy them here.  Or, you can try and score the free passes we have to give away right now!

So, how can you win 2 free lawn seats to this incredible musical spectacular?  All you have to do is email us by 10 AM on Friday June 28 and tell us what your all time favorite Flaming Lips song is and why.  Please include your first and last name for guest list requirements. The winner will be emailed back on 6/28.

Video of the Week: Working for a Nuclear Free City "Rocket"

6/25/2013

(by Dawn Reed) After sifting through hundreds of videos that all started to blend boringly together and progressively becoming less interesting (come on video director noobs, do some research before relying on extreme slow-mo shots of bullshit) I've decided to not just focus on what's new this week and have chosen this "old" gem as video of the week.  Working for a Nuclear Free City is a shoegaze band based out of Manchester, a city notorious for amazing bands dating back to the 70's, and no doubt played a part in the passion behind their sound.  That paired with vintage shots of NASA and our mission to explore our world past the stratosphere completely wins me. Press play and let your mind sail through the universe.

Sweden's folk rock band Junip are currently touring in support of their second s/t LP.  This follows their 2010 debut Fields featuring the track "Without You" for which they held a contest for their creative fans to produce music videos for.  They've listed dozens of entrants on their YouTube channel for your perusal. Below is a video from their 2013 release that is the 1st part in a series of music videos that chronicle suburban lives.

DC's 9:30 Club has joined with us to handover a couple of free passes to one lucky Scene Trekker for Junip's 6/15 show! All you have to do is email us by 3 PM on 6/14 and let us know your favorite Junip track. Please include your first and last name for guest list requirements. The winner will be emailed back. If you don't want to risk it selling out before you can get in, tickets can still be purchased here.

Video of the Week: Slava "Girl Like Me"

6/10/2013

(by Dawn Reed) Moscow born Slava was clearly influenced by the decadent house music of the early 90's after escaping the Cold War and laying roots in Chicago.  Now based out of NYC, Slava continues to flesh out his wave of electronic beats in a style dubbed Windy City 2 Step. His awesome track "Girl Like Me" from the album Raw Solutions needed a completely not-boring/creepily uncomfortable video to accompany it, and comes full force proper in this tale of a darkly fucked sibling relationship.
