(by Dawn Reed) Once upon a time, a young Parisian boy got his first job as a waiter at a little cafe in a little establishment known as Hôtel Costes. With the initial love of clubs and making people dance, this boy grew up perfecting his craft around France at established discotheques. Ten years later, a chance meeting with the co-owner at his first place of employment occured, and thus crowned him resident DJ of Hôtel Costes.  That man of course, Stephane Pompougnac, the renowned Prince of Lounge, has a ridiculous discography including 5 platinum albums, 14 gold albums, and 5,000,000 album sales worldwide.  And now he returns to the US to do what he does best, DJ.

The 9:30 Club in DC wants to make sure one lucky Scene Trekker gets in to this chill party taking place Aug 31, so we've teamed up with them to give out a couple guest list spots!  All you have to do is email us by 5 PM on 8/29 and let us know what Pompougnac track gets your groove going. Please include your first and last name for guest list requirements. The winner will be emailed back. Tickets to this gig are still available here.

(by Dawn Reed) Iceland's atmospheric layer building supergroup Sigur Rós have taken their fans involvement and social networking to a new level with this ever-evolving video construed by Instagram video hashtags.  Simply put, SR asked their creative fanbase to film what "stormur" means to them. Translated from Icelandic, it means "a powerful gale, a force able to disrupt and alter all that comes in its path.  For the proper effect, check it out here.  For a glimmer of how it was once in time, click play above.

The 4th annual celebration of the King of Pop's existence goes on around the world on August 29.  That being Michael Jackson of course.  A permanent fixture in inspiration behind all rising stars and fans of pop, Michael Jackson will always reign, because with Kings and Queens comes Legacy. Look around at your local club scene and make it out and show your own solo rendition during Thriller, and show off your moonwalking skills, pickle grabbing, vertical leaning, and signature screaming.

DC's 9:30 Club pushed the event to Aug 30 this year so you can ease into the weekend with MJ on the mind.  They even granted us a pair of guest list spots to give to one lucky scene trekker! All you have to do is email us by 3 PM on Aug 23 and let us know your what your favorite Michael Jackson song means to you.  Please include first and last name for guest list requirements. The winner will be emailed back.

You can still buy tickets here, where a portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, Washington, DC's premier public high school that provides professional arts training and college preparation to more than 500 talented students from every ward in the city. Its mission is to nurture and inspire passion for arts and learning in talented students who might not otherwise have an opportunity to develop their artistic skills. 98% of Ellington students graduate and 95% go on to college or university or careers in the arts. For more information or to make a gift directly, please visit www.ellingtonschool.org or call 202-333-2555.
