(by Kaitlyn Ward) In honor of Maribou State releasing their ahhhmazing new Truths EP last week, I thought I'd rewind to 2012 with the awesome video for the title track on their breakout Olivia EP. Liam Ivory and Chris Davids, or the "boys from the shire" as they call themselves, put out the EP on Norman Cook's Southern Fried Records last February and have since garnered a following via UK blogs, late-night radio, and a series of great remixes. Their understated future garage sound makes me feel warm n' fuzzy, so I'd definitely recommend keeping an eye on these boys in the coming months. They're just now hopping over the pond, so if you live in DC, check them out at U St. Music Hall with Tensnake on 11/8 or keep up with their tour on Resident Advisor. Until then, watch some dudes "do Alphagetti" and stop-motion trip in the woods.

(by Kait) WeDidIt did it again. The latest to come out of the forever magical, LA-based collective is a mysterious track titled “The Club." The video surfaced a couple weeks ago courtesy of an equally mysterious producer simply named Purple.
Despite the general confusion this song is causing on the internet, Purple's identity isn't really a secret. He is actually Luis Dourado, co-founder of Terrain Ahead records and a talented visual artist to boot. Luis, Ivo Pacheco (IVVVO) and Tiago Carneiro (Solution) founded Terrain Ahead in Porto, Portugal circa 2010 and the "avant garde" label is quietly moving up the ranks. These guys are so fresh its hard to tell who they properly represent, but it seems they run with a plethora of spooky producers including: Trikk, Myeunoia, Baliac, Moss, Twerz, Pearl and others. All these guys have the dark n' twisty vibes on lock, so if you're into that check out the Terrain Ahead Facebook page to stay in the loop. Purple's deep, dirty, sexy sound makes him a no-brainer for WeDidIt and I'm anxiously awaiting his Salvation EP, due out November 5th. Anyway, watch this creepy, sweaty, hashtag-sexually-explicit video for "The Club," <3 that shit on soundcloud, follow him on twitter @reachpurple, check out his rad photomontages/collages, and consider yourself demystified. |
